Luray Caverns

Luray Caverns

While staying at Luray Jellystone Park Camp Resort, one of the most amazing attractions to visit is Luray Caverns. The whole family will stare in amazement at the rock formations and crystal-clear pools created 400-million years ago.

Discovered by men that set out in the late 1800’s to find a cave in the hopes of developing a tourist attraction, people even back then came by the hundreds to see what was called the "Discovery of the Century."  Today, half a million people per year take hour-long tours of the caverns where stalactites and stalagmites abound.  The dripping water in the cavern continues to form these natural wonders at a rate of one cubic inch every 120 years.

Luray Caverns boasts the world's only Great Stalacpipe Organ, an amazing mix of modern science and nature that produces sounds from the formations. Another highlight is the ornamental maze with its eight-foot high hedges, sure to delight kids of all ages. Luray Caverns is an educational and exciting place to visit.  And remember, the caverns really are cool -- a constant 52 degrees.  So plan to pack a sweater and wear rubber soled shoes for your safety.

ShenandoahShenandoah River and Valley at Shenandoah National Park

When staying at Yogi Bear’s™ Jellystone Park in Luray, you’ll be nestled near one of the country’s most beautiful national parks. With breathtaking views and abundant hiking trails, the Shenandoah National Park has something for everyone. The most popular hike leads to the area's 14 waterfalls. Other hikes lead to places of historical interest within the Park. The most popular of these are old, pioneer homes, churches and cemeteries. Many of these homes are in ruins, but enough remain intact that hikers are treated to a bit of early Americana, and a taste of days gone by when they come across these relics of the past. You can even retrace the path that Confederate General Stonewall Jackson and his troops used to cross the mountain from west to east, on his way to Fredericksburg. Some of the trails are easy enough to hike through with most family members. They’ll be amazed at the panoramic views, the deep canyons, the amazing sights, and general beauty of the area.

The Shenandoah River Valley has been revered as one of the most bountiful and beautiful regions of North America, bounded by lovely mountain ranges and fed by the Shenandoah River. The South Fork of The Shenandoah River is the principal stream that flows to the northeast where it is joined by the North Fork at Front Royal Virginia. From here, the combined streams meet the Potomac River at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. Drift past orchards, hay fields and forests that have seen some of the most important moments in US history.

Skyline DriveSkyline Drive

Through the Shenandoah National Park runs the 105-mile-long Skyline Drive. It is a magnificent, scenic two-lane highway that winds its way through a true camper's paradise. Enjoy the breathtaking views and amazing wildlife.

Skyline Drive roughly parallels about 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail, the 2,100-mile-long footpath that stretches from Maine to Georgia. Hikers say that the portion running through Shenandoah is one of the most beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail.

You can count on Jellystone Park to provide a family-oriented campground with plenty of activities and great accommodations, and of course Yogi Bear! Whether you want to rough it on the hiking trails, or take it easy lounging by our pool, you’ll find everything you need to have a great family vacation filled with great amenities, and activities.

Skyline Drive, and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Camp at Luray, make a great camping vacation even better! Our Jellystone is located just off the Skyline Drive. From Skyline Drive, at Thornton Gap, take U.S. 211 west for 5 mi. Yogi Bear's™ Jellystone Camp Park Resort…where you always camp with friends.
